Insights
Today, people often look beyond their doctor to general media to help them understand health matters, whether it is Dr. Google, news updates, social networks, video, or mobile apps.
Problem
People are often looking for better ways to manage their health and prevent chronic diseases, but they may not know that solutions may be as simple as brisk walking. They think it has to be more complicated, like getting expensive gym memberships or exercise equipment. How do we make walking “sexy”, and how do we get a message out to the general public while ensuring the information is credible and scientifically sound?
Solutions
At the Health Design Lab, we do a CBC radio show that has 300 000 listeners! We arouse interest by discussing a new wonder treatment and the scientific evidence supporting the healthy effects of this treatment…and then drop the bombshell that the treatment is physical activity. We also include summarized information on the scientific benefits of physical activity, tips onhow to incorporate walking into one’s daily routine as well as our recommended resources including the best websites, online tools, mobile apps, books etc.
